For a wide range of small organic molecules tetraarlyadamantane derivatives can chaperone the formation of high quality cocrystals suitable for absolute structure determination. The method is easy-to-use and has a high success rate in the 95% range.

Initial studies indicate that TEO works best for analytes with a molecular weight between 50 and 180 D and a calculated lipophilicity (logP) between -1 and 3.5.
